_ 486SX or better
_ 4mb RAM required (8MB or more recommended)
_ DOS 3.1 or later
_ Microsoft Windows 3.1
_ 1.2mb free hard drive space
_ MPC compatible CD-ROM drive
_ SVGA display (256 colors), audio board, and mouse
_ Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions 2.2 or later
COMMON MULTIMEDIA CONSIDERATIONS
Please set your Windows Wallpaper, Background and Screen Saver to "<None>" before running this
program. You can find these in the "Desktop" Control Panel.
Running other applications or TSRs simultaneously with Cool Crafts can cause various conflicts. If you
do experience any problems, quit any other applications and end any tasks before you run Cool Crafts
again. (You can easily be do this by bringing up the Task List [Ctrl-Esc], selecting any entries other than
Program Manager, and choosing End Task for that selection.)
In addition to requiring 4 megabytes of built in RAM, we recommend that you have at least 6,000kb of
free memory. To check the amount of free memory currently available to Windows, select the 'Help' menu
in Program Manager and select 'About Program Manager'. At the bottom of the information screen, the
'Memory' will be listed (in kilobytes). If this number is below 6000kb, you will need to turn on or increase
the size of the Virtual Memory swap file. Please refer to your Windows manuals for instructions on how
to do this.
INSTALLING COOL CRAFTS
From Program Manager, access File Manager. Click on the letter representing your CD-ROM drive--
we'll use 'd:' for this discussion.
1. Find the setup.exe file in the d: drive and double-click on it. This will begin the installation program.
2. Click 'Yes' when asked if you want to continue the installation.
3. Click on the 'Install Cool Crafts' button.
4. You will then be informed that the installation will make changes to your system files. Click 'Yes' to
continue.
5. You will then be told that Cool Crafts will be installed into the C:\CRAFTS directory. If this is okay,
click 'Yes' to continue.
6. Before the Cool Crafts installation is complete, it will check to see if you have Video for Windows
Version 1.1 or later already installed on your system. If you do not, the Video for Windows installation
program will begin.
7. Once the installation is complete, you will be asked to restart Windows. Click the 'Yes' button to restart
Windows.
5. To start Cool Crafts once you are back in Windows (Program Manager), open the 'Multicom
Publishing' program group and double-click on the Cool Crafts icon.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING
In our installation program we have included some tools to assist you in case you run into difficulties. If
you do run into problems trying to run Cool Crafts, repeat steps 1 and 2 above. This time, however, you
can select 'Info' or 'MPC' to help you determine what the problem may be.
-Video Problems-
If you experience visual problems with Cool Crafts, switch your video display to 640x480 resolution with
256 colors. (Refer to your video card manual for instructions on how to do this.) If you are already using
the 640x480/256 color mode, contact the video card manufacturer to make sure you have the most recent
version of their video display driver.
-Audio Problems-
If you experience audio problems with Cool Crafts, you can test your sound card with the MPC testing
tools on the installation program (See 'Trouble-shooting' above). If you are unable to play a midi file or a
wave file, you may have a problem with your sound card driver installation. If this is the case, refer to the
manual for your sound card.
